The Socio-Economic Development Division (SEDD) is responsible for promoting inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in Africa through evidence-based policy analysis, programme support, and capacity development in the areas of social development, employment, poverty reduction, social protection, and women’s and youth economic empowerment. This position is located in the Director’s office, Social-Economic Development Division (SEDD), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The incumbent reports to the Director of the Division. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Chief of Section will be responsible for the following.
• Provides policy advice on conceptual strategy development and management of the implementation of overall strategies and intra- and inter-divisional/departmental policies and procedures and oversee the management of activities undertaken by the Division; ensure that substantive work programmes and programmed activities are carried out in a timely fashion, coordinating diverse projects in the Division, and, in liaison with other organizations of the United Nations System, donors and agencies as appropriate. • supports and coordinates the work programme of the Division.
