This position is located within the Evaluation Team, Office of the Director, Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET), Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The incumbent will report directly to the Chief, Evaluation Team.
Within delegated authority, the Associate Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Analyses information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press; uses data and analysis to assess trends; maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues that may impact mandate delivery and performance of peacekeeping operations.; • Supports the implementation of the Comprehensive Planning and Performance Assessment System (CPAS) in peacekeeping missions and its use to inform planning, policy and best practices.
• Assists senior official with briefing notes, background papers and talking points. • Prepares summaries of articles from a wide variety of sources and draft a variety of correspondence, and sections of reports. • Monitors political, socio-economic, and other politically relevant developments in an assigned area.
• Provides input into political, humanitarian and economic efforts and programmes. • Creates databases that track project progress and provides other information relevant to assigned area. • Supports the Chief of the Evaluation Team in analysing CPAS data to identify policy gaps effecting mandate delivery, in coordination with peacekeeping missions and relevant offices in UN Headquarters • Performs other related duties as required.
