This position is in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, the Senior Programme Management Officer will provide support to the Principal Economic Affairs Officer of the Strategic Planning and Communications Services in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General.

Within delegated authority, the Senior Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
(1) Identify new and emerging challenges, especially cross-cutting issues and develop strategies for UN DESA's work on these issues;
(2) Develop strategic partnerships with think tanks, academia, knowledge networks and other relevant entities;
(3) Prepare strategy notes for Department wide initiatives on the most topical development issues;
(4) Promote intra-departmental collaboration and strategic networking including through support to the UN DESA Editorial Board;
(5) Strengthen the Department's outreach to Member States and other stakeholders, particularly to UN entities;
(6) Facilitate departmental work on the implementation of the Pact for the Future;
(7) Serve as Secretary to the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs (ECESA) and promote strategic integration and policy coherence, including collaborative work with other Secretariat entities;
(8) Coordinate policy development; review the assessments of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or research activities and studies;
(9) Coordinate preparation of various written outputs, e.g. background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.;
(10) Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.;
(11) Serve as an effective spokesperson and establish collaboration and partnerships with key officials at all levels inside and outside the organization;
(12) May perform other duties as required.
