The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations System's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
The overall objective of the UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive.
It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.
This position is located in the UNEP/Industry and Economy Division, Chemicals and Health Branch, Global Framework on Chemicals Secretariat, Geneva duty station. The Fifth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management adopted in September 2023, in Bonn, the Global Framework on Chemicals and its Fund. The Global Framework on Chemicals requires a strengthened Secretariat to effectively implement the framework.
Under the overall guidance of the Senior Programme Management Officer and direct supervision of the Industry Liaison Officer, Global Framework on Chemicals, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
1) Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
2) Manages the new framework instrument reporting process including tracking progress and measurability to report to the Global Framework on Chemicals by all participants and supports the assessment of progress towards the objectives and indicators.
3) Ensures that knowledge management processes of identifying, organizing, storing, and disseminating information in support of Global Framework on Chemicals implementation is secured. This includes managing data bases to support implementation and promoting the exchange of relevant scientific and technical information among relevant stakeholders.
4) Facilitates the development and dissemination of guidance materials (including alternative funding mechanisms) to support implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals by stakeholders.
5) Performs other duties as required.
