The position is located in the United Nations Regional Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, Central Africa Regional Office of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Yaoundé, The incumbent will report to the Director of the Field Operations Division, under the overall authority of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Deputy High Commissioner.
The incumbent heads the United Nations Regional Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, which functions as the OHCHR Regional Office for Central Africa.
The Regional Representative will be establishing and maintaining relations, inter-alia, with governments, the diplomatic community, civil society, the United Nations system, the private sector and the academia in respect of the work of OHCHR.
In coordination with relevant OHCHR presences in the region, the Representative will be responsible for identifying human rights priorities in the region through the coordination of the observation, technical assistance, etc., and elaborating a strategy for the effective promotion and protection of human rights in the country supervising the implementation of the associated work. Depending on any structural re-organization of OHCHR, the Regional Representative would oversee OHCHR operations in the region.
